Cheer team qualifies for the State finals

The cheer team from Woy Woy campus of Brisbane Water Secondary College has participated in the Qualifying Cheer and Dancestar Competition at St Pius X at Adamstown on Sunday, May 14.

The competition is to qualify for state finals which are held in June, with the national finals to follow in Adelaide.

In the lyrical audition, Misty McPhee was first, Maya Dawson second, Sarah James third, Lara Pothitos fourth, Amelia Newton fifth and Liz Elliot sixth.

The jazz audition saw the same results as the lyrical audition.

In the cheer audition, Misty was first, Maya second, Sarah third, and Amelia fourth.

In the hip hop audition, Sarah was first, Maya second and Misty third

In each case, all are through to state finals

"In the auditions, students are taken to a rehearsal room and are taught a short routine in 30 minutes," said principal Ms Rebecca Cooper.

"They then perform the routine on stage with a number, similar to an audition and are placed.

"Our cheer team, the Griffin Girls are through to state finals with very positive feedback to work on and a fantastic score for a qualifying round."
